What is an Intuition Starter®?
Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 08:52AM When you see the words Intuition Starter® what do you think they mean? Without resorting to a dictionary definition what comes up for you when you connect with each word separately and then the two together? I ask you to do this BEFORE I tell you my definition because this is the essence of what it means to be an Intuition Starter.
So have you got an idea? If so jot down your thoughts and then pick up here when you are ready. After reading this post feel free to share your thoughts as I am always curious what others think before I introduce the concept.
An evolving working definition
I like the idea of working definitions. In fact isn’t that the way language works these days? Many words developed years ago have entirely different meanings a generation later. To me this is also the evolution of the word intuition. Starting back in time when intuition the word came into the human consciousness it had one meaning. I will honor this etymological history at another point. For now I would like to propose a working definition for purposes of this writing.
Intuition: Knowing without knowing how you know.
In this context I like to explain intuition as a term that captures the essence of our conscious knowing that does not arise from logical deductive thought processes. Evidence may be found to support our insights or comments, yet this evidence comes AFTER the intuitive insight, not before. Intuition in this context is about awareness, consciousness and what you know within the context of your world. It is information arising from inside of you, sourced from inside of you and originally yours. Well actually it may be originally from all sorts of places, yet once the insight, thought, idea or concept bubbles up into your awareness it passes through your unique set of filters to become original in your world.
Intuition is related to those times when you know something but can’t explain how or why. People will press you for an answer or reason. We live in a world where if you can’t back up why you say what you say then why say it. So in this context you know you are in the realm of intuition when you can only say things like “I just know.” Or “just because” or “the thought just popped in my head, I never have thought of this before”, or “it just feels right in my body”. When you suspend judgment and expectation you then appreciate that intuition is a unique way of knowing.
Starter: Beginning from a new place of origin.
To start is always about beginnings. Beginnings though don’t have to be about the first place or first time. In this definition starter is about what gets us going in a new direction, new way of doing something or change in awareness and insight. The newness can be experience or perspective or both.
Starter also implies action and movement. If you stay static or stuck somewhere you don’t start. If you resist you don’t start. To start is to let movement and flow pass through you to create action.
Starter also refers to you being the initiator of the action either in yourself or others. To start means you create an impact and you start something. The degree to which you start something of influence depends on your focus. From the perspective of this definition the focus is on you.
On another level beginnings can be cyclical. You may have come out of one cycle or period of time to enter a new cycle. To start in this sense is to restart from a new place. In terms of this definition I like to consider that we are starters all times in our lives. Some of us have years and lifetimes of experience and knowing already to inform us. Others may be completely fresh and oblivious to past journeys. Either way when we head in a new direction, consciously or unconsciously, we are starters.
Intuition Starter ®
When we bring the two words together we get a powerful and energetic term. An Intuition Starter® is a person who is:
- for the first time connecting with and using their intuition to expand their awareness and consciousness as they engage in their world;
- on a new cycle of growth in their personal journey in which they consciously open up to even deeper and more meaningful ways to use intuition in their life and work; and
- remembering their innate ability to know from within tapping into this knowing and reinforcing it.
